“DOWNGAUGING” has been discussed in the food industry for several years. Thickness reduction is only one potential way to decrease CO2 emissions and there are several factors to consider before reducing the thickness of the packaging itself.
Developing sustainable and environmentally-friendly packaging solutions is Chemosvit Folie´s key mission. When developing the most suitable packaging solutions for the customers, Chemosvit Folie always considers suitability for the particular product type, effective use for packaging machines, and of course recyclability. There are different ways to prevent waste, such as effective use of raw materials, selection of the most suitable material types, and also reduction of dimensions and thickness of the packaging, while retaining the shelf-life of the product.
Chemosvit Folie, in collaboration with the customers, has managed to reduce the thickness of the packaging by around 20%. For the customer, this means more packed products and reduced unit costs. Importantly, Chemosvit Folie works closely with customers to reduce plastic consumption and decrease the CO2 footprint, while preserving the standard shelf-life of all products.
